The Land of Hoysalas will offer adventure water sports in four lakes in the district.
During the monsoon, thousands of tourists visit the district; but the footfall decreases during the summer. Owing to the good rainfall last monsoon, the lakes retained water even during this summer. Now, to attract visitors during this season, the tourism department plans to develop new adventurous water sports, an official stated.
As of now, water sports were conducted only at one spot on the Bhadra River. Preparations are being made to start water sports in the expansive historical lakes of Madagad and Aianakere in Kadur taluk, which retain water even in summer. There is also potential for organising water sports in Belavadi Lake and Moogihalli Lake on the outskirts of the city on Moodigere road, the official added.
In addition, water sports could be organised in the lakes of Kotekere, Ramanahalli, and Nalluru near the city. However, water sports are not possible in Hirekolale Lake as it supplies drinking water.
The authorities have sought permission from the minor irrigation department as the lakes are under their custodian. The activities will be launched under public-private partnership if the permission is granted. Punith, who runs a homestay in the district, said it was a good development to promote tourism.
